Description
“Hopeful Farm” -- Millville, New York
An Inspiration from The Black Stallion Book Series 1941 by Walter Farley
36 x 48 Original Acrylic on Canvas by Barbara Lee Donovan
This work was inspired by the Black Stallion book series beginning in 1941. In the series The Black Stallion as well as offspring of the horse were placed in the storyline at Hopeful Farm that was in Millville, New York (Orleans County). The Farm may or may not have been a real location, but Millville exists.
The painting depicts an open yellow grassed field with a rolling green mountainside in the background. Vast open country spaces with lots of fresh air to breathe. An overjoyed black Arabian stallion gallops across the clearing of the farm. Happy to be home, cherished and loved immensely. The wind whips through his mane and tail as he gallops sounding like a flag snapping in a stiff breeze. He is swift, vibrant, and strong. It is morning and he greets the new day stretching his legs as the light in the sky gleams off his Black blue velvet coat. Beauty in perpetual motion. Unhinged and natural. He could run forever free.
The original will be on exhibit and for sale available thru The Amsterdam Whitney Gallery in Chelsea New York, NY October 2022.
