"Things that Fly 1"- by Barbara Lee Donovan.
This work was created by using a photo of a duck I had taken a few years earlier and placing one of my many collection of butterflies I had found stored away in a trunk.
When I was a child I spent a lot of time outdoors and had a fascination with all sorts of bugs to animals. I would catch butterflies and then look them up in encyclopedias to find out their names then write the info down. I built up quite a collection however some have survived over the years and others well...not so lucky.
This butterfly is over 30 years old and was wrapped in a cellophane like material so creating this piece was delicate work. The end result makes for an interesting and colorful piece combining two very beautiful things that fly.
